Cancellation requested by the Debtor
What it means in practice
In a pacs.004 payment return, a return reason code explains why funds that were already settled are being sent back. It sits in TxInf/RtrRsnInf/Rsn/Cd, and bank statements (camt.053, camt.054) repeat it in RtrInf/Rsn/Cd.
The ordering customer asked for the payment to be cancelled. This is the usual reason in a camt.056 sent on a customer's request.
What to do
- The receiving bank decides whether it can still stop or return the funds; follow up on the camt.029 answer. Many banks need the beneficiary's consent once the funds are credited.
