MT198 is the category 1 Proprietary Message. It carries content whose layout the sender and receiver, or the members of a closed user group, have agreed between themselves, identified by a sub-message type, for customer payments business that no standard message covers.

What MT198 is used for
Because the content is agreed privately, the network checks only the envelope. Use it only under an agreement with the receiver; a bank that has not agreed the format cannot process it.
