MT598 is the category 5 Proprietary Message. It carries content whose layout the sender and receiver, or the members of a closed user group, have agreed between themselves, identified by a sub-message type, for securities business that no standard message covers.

What MT598 is used for
Because the content is agreed privately, the network checks only the envelope. Use it only under an agreement with the receiver; a bank that has not agreed the format cannot process it.
In securities, depositories and other market infrastructures can use MT598 for flows that no standard message covers, with each sub-message type defined in their own specification. In Saudi Arabia, ZagTrader registers investors and securities accounts with the depository over MT598 and applies the depository’s answers automatically.
