SUSP tells holders that trading in a security has been suspended. It is an informational, mandatory event: nothing moves, but trading, pricing and settlement plans are affected.

SUSP
Usually announced as
MAND

What SUSP means

Exchanges suspend trading when, for example, price-sensitive news is pending, a company fails to publish accounts, or a merger or restructuring is under way. SUSP passes that status change down the custody chain with the date of suspension (:98a::TSDT).

The ECB SCoRE rulebook gives SUSP as MAND with no options and no movements. It often comes before another event: a resumption (ACTV), a delisting (DLST), or a reorganisation.

When you see it

  • In an MT564 with MAND and the trading suspended date; sometimes as part of the timetable of a merger or rights issue.
  • SUSP vs ACTV: ACTV announces that trading has started or resumed. SUSP vs DLST: a delisting removes the security from the exchange for good.

What to do next

  • Tell portfolio managers and traders; orders on the exchange cannot be executed.
  • Check pending settlements: trades done before the suspension usually still settle, but check with the counterparty and the account servicer.
  • Flag the price as stale in valuation and apply your fair value policy if the suspension lasts.
