What DOCY means
Some markets and securities need paperwork before settlement: transfer forms, registration details for registered shares, beneficial owner declarations, or tax documents. DOCY says the missing item is on your side.
Under PPRC the custodian has not processed the instruction yet; under PEND or PENF it is in settlement and waiting. The counterparty-side equivalent is DOCC.
When you see it
- In registration markets, on physical settlement, and on first trades in a market where the account documentation is incomplete.
What to do next
- Read the narrative to find which document is missing and send it to the custodian. Check whether it is a one-off or must accompany every trade in that market.
