What PART means

When partial settlement is allowed on both instructions (:22F::STCO//PART in MT54x, SttlmParams/PrtlSttlmInd = PART in sese.023), the settlement system can settle what is available instead of waiting for the full quantity. The remaining part stays open and the status advice explains that the trade settles in partials.

Under PEND the rest may still settle on the intended date; under PENF the open part is failing.

When you see it

  • After a partial settlement confirmation (MT545 or MT547 for against-payment trades, or sese.025) when the delivering side was short, often after LACK on a large delivery.

What to do next

  • Reconcile the settled quantity and amount from the partial confirmation, and track the open remainder until it settles.
  • If the remainder will not settle soon, agree with the counterparty whether to keep it open or cancel and reinstruct.
