MT105 EDIFACT Envelope
Written and maintained by ZagTrader. Last reviewed . How this page is sourced and checked
The MT105 is an envelope: one financial institution uses it to send another an EDIFACT message, placed as it is in field 77F. Its use and content depend on a bilateral agreement between the two banks, and both must be registered in the Message User Group for it.

What MT105 is used for
Field 77F holds up to 1,800 characters of EDIFACT text in the EDIFACT level A character set. A longer EDIFACT message is split across several MT105s: field 27 gives the position of each part in the series, and field 21 carries the same reference to the enveloped EDIFACT message in every part. The standard recommends one EDIFACT message per envelope.
Field 12 identifies the type of EDIFACT message inside the envelope by its numeric code. The detailed layout of the enveloped message is defined in the EDIFACT implementation guidelines, not in the MT standard.
