MT201 Multiple Financial Institution Transfer for its Own Account
Written and maintained by ZagTrader. Last reviewed . How this page is sourced and checked
Retired in the 2025 standards release: no longer sent on the Swift network.
The MT201 was the multiple form of the MT200. An account owner bank sent it to one of its account servicing banks to move funds from that account to several accounts it held, in the same currency, at other banks. Swift removed it from the FIN network on 22 November 2025.

What MT201 is used for
It carried two to ten transfers, each with its own reference, amount and account with institution; field 19 had to equal the sum of the amounts and every amount had to be in the same currency.
Bank notices list the MT201 among the payment messages rejected by the network since 22 November 2025, without conversion. Each transfer now goes as its own pacs.009, or as an MT200 that Swift converts under contingency processing.
Withdrawn from the Swift FIN network on 22 November 2025, when MT/MX coexistence for payment instructions ended: the network now rejects (NAKs) it instead of delivering it, and Swift does not convert it to ISO 20022.

Fields
This is a catalogue entry: the field-by-field structure is not shown here because we publish structures only where we have checked them against public sources.
ISO 20022
No replacement message: bank notices state that the withdrawn MT201 is not substituted with an ISO 20022 message. Each transfer is sent as a separate pacs.009.
