MT203 Multiple General Financial Institution Transfer
Written and maintained by ZagTrader. Last reviewed . How this page is sourced and checked
Retired in the 2025 standards release: no longer sent on the Swift network.
The MT203 was the multiple form of the MT202. The ordering bank, or a bank acting for it, sent it to move funds to several beneficiary institutions at once; all parties had to be financial institutions. Swift removed it from the FIN network on 22 November 2025.

What MT203 is used for
Each of the two to ten transactions had its own reference, related reference, amount and beneficiary institution, with field 19 equal to the sum of the amounts in one currency.
Bank notices list the MT203 among the payment messages the network NAKs since 22 November 2025, with no conversion. Each transfer now goes as its own pacs.009, or as an MT202 converted under contingency processing.
Withdrawn from the Swift FIN network on 22 November 2025, when MT/MX coexistence for payment instructions ended: the network now rejects (NAKs) it instead of delivering it, and Swift does not convert it to ISO 20022.

Fields
This is a catalogue entry: the field-by-field structure is not shown here because we publish structures only where we have checked them against public sources.
ISO 20022
No replacement message: the withdrawn MT203 is not substituted with an ISO 20022 message. Each transfer is sent as a separate pacs.009.
