MT747 Amendment to an Authorisation to Reimburse
Written and maintained by ZagTrader. Last reviewed . How this page is sourced and checked
The MT747 amends an authorisation to reimburse. The issuing bank sends it to the reimbursing bank when the credit changes in a way that matters for reimbursement, such as a new expiry date, an increase or decrease of the amount, or new tolerances. The amendment becomes part of the original MT740 authorisation.

What MT747 is used for
When the issuing bank amends a credit with an MT707, it also has to tell the reimbursing bank if the change affects claims. The MT747 quotes the credit number in field 20 and the date of the original MT740 in field 30, and then carries only the changed terms, such as a new expiry date (31E) and the increase, decrease and new total of the credit amount.
The reimbursing bank applies the MT740 as amended when it checks later MT742 claims.

ISO 20022
No ISO 20022 equivalent in general use. Documentary credit messages in category 7 were not part of the November 2025 move of cross-border payment instructions to ISO 20022 and are still exchanged as MT on Swift.
