Settlement Transaction Type Codes (22F::SETR)
Written and maintained by ZagTrader. Last reviewed . How this page is sourced and checked
Every settlement instruction says what kind of transaction it settles: field :22F::SETR// in sequence E of MT540, MT541, MT542 and MT543, repeated in the confirmations MT544 to MT547, and the securities transaction type in sese.023. Most instructions use TRAD; repos, securities lending, collateral moves and account transfers have their own codes.
The code matters beyond reporting: in some markets it takes part in matching, and it decides how a repo or loan is handled. Each page explains the code, when to use it and what goes wrong if you pick the wrong one.
Trades and trade-related settlement

TRAD tells the account servicer that the instruction settles an ordinary purchase or sale of securities. It is the default and by far the most common value of the mandatory SETR indicator in settlement instructions.
