MT526 General Securities Lending/Borrowing Message
Written and maintained by ZagTrader. Last reviewed . How this page is sourced and checked
The MT526 is a general message between institutions involved in securities lending. A lender or its agent uses it to list securities that are, or are no longer, available to lend; a borrower uses it to ask to borrow; either side uses it to notify a partial or full return, to ask that securities be held, or to confirm a hold.

What MT526 is used for
The action requested in an MT526 is normally confirmed with an MT516, subject to agreement between the parties. Like the MT516, it uses the older layout without 16R blocks: a header part (reference 20, further identification 23, optional safekeeping account 83C and contact lines 29A and 29B) and a part with the security (35B, mandatory) and optional quantity, dates and delivering or receiving party.
Swift standards maintenance papers published on iso20022.org list a change request to remove the MT516 and MT526 from the Swift network. Both were still part of the SR 2025 standard; check the current release guide before building a new flow on them.
