The MT620 confirms a fixed term loan or deposit of a commodity, such as gold lent or deposited for a set period at an agreed interest rate. The two parties to the contract, or banks acting for them, exchange it to confirm a new contract, an amendment, a cancellation, a rollover or the maturity.

What MT620 is used for

It is the commodity counterpart of the MT320 for cash loans and deposits. The contract details sit in sequence B: trade date, value date, maturity date, the quantity of commodity, the interest rate and amount, and the day count. Sequences C and D (mandatory) and E and F (optional) carry settlement instructions, and the optional sequences G and H carry tax details and other additional information.

Unlike most category 6 messages, the MT620 is restricted to a message user group: banks must register with Swift to send and receive it.

ISO 20022

No ISO 20022 equivalent: Swift’s MT and MX equivalence tables list none for the category 6 commodity messages. Category 6 was not part of the November 2025 move of cross-border payment instructions to ISO 20022, so the message is still exchanged as MT on Swift.

MT620 questions

What is the difference between the MT620 and the MT320?
Both confirm a fixed term loan or deposit. The MT320 is for money in a currency; the MT620 is for a commodity, such as a quantity of gold lent or deposited.
Can any bank send an MT620?
No. The category 6 reference guide marks the MT620 as a message user group message, so both banks must be registered for it with Swift.
