What ADEA means

Custodians set deadlines ahead of the market’s own cut-offs so they have time to process and pass on instructions. ADEA is about that servicer deadline; the market’s deadline is LATE.

The status in front of it changes the meaning. Under PACK, PPRC, PEND, PENF, NMAT or CANP the servicer accepted the late instruction or request and works on it on a best effort basis. Under REJT it refused the instruction. Under DEND it denied a cancellation, modification or repo call request because it came too late. Under CACK it acknowledged a late repo call request.

When you see it

  • On instructions sent close to or after the custodian’s published cut-off for the market, often on same-day or next-day settlement.

What to do next

  • Check your custodian’s deadline for the market and instruction type. If the trade must still settle today, call the custodian; best effort is not a promise.
  • If the instruction was rejected (REJT//ADEA), resend it with a settlement date the custodian can still meet, in agreement with the counterparty.

  • Denied and repo call answers are not part of sese.024; they are reported in other ISO 20022 status messages.

Questions

What is the difference between ADEA and LATE?
ADEA: you missed your custodian’s deadline. LATE: the instruction missed the market’s deadline, for example the CSD cut-off. A custodian can accept an ADEA instruction on a best effort basis; a LATE instruction cannot settle in that day’s market cycle.
