What MT549 is used for
The message type wanted goes in :13A::REQU// with three digits, for example :13A::REQU//535. Sequence A also holds the safekeeping account (97a, mandatory) and, depending on the request, the statement date (98a::STAT) or period (69a::STAT) and indicators for statement type, basis and frequency. Optional sequences narrow the request by status and reason, by financial instrument or by instruction reference.
Besides holdings and transactions, an MT549 can ask for the MT506, MT538, MT569, MT575, MT576 and MT586 statements, and for the MT507, MT509, MT510 and MT558 status messages. Many servicers send statements on a standing schedule instead, and some support only part of the list, so check their guide. A request for a message type or period the servicer cannot serve may be rejected.
